Ready for an adventure? (I know I am)
There are numerous wonders scattered around the world, structures and creations that awe us all.
Do you already know all the wonders of the world? The countries they reside in? What is it that’s truly mesmerising about them?
And the most important question yet: When will they cease to exits? Destroyed by our own hands or by the currents of time, they are bound to disappear one day right?
Now that I’ve grabbed the attention of those curios minds, lets dive in.
Background
First, let’s get our heads around the wonders of the world, what they truly stand for and what makes them so intriguing?
Did you know that the wonders of the world is ever changing? As some fall victim to the currents of time, or human actions, they disappear and in their place new wonders will arise. Or alternatively, we can take a less destructive and melancholy tone and say that the wonders of the world are changing because new structure and creations have been found! Both reasons are true for the ever changing list of wonders to explore.
Do you remember at the beginning of this blog I mentioned that the wonders of the world can be structures or creations?
Well…… there are many categories for the world wonders.
Categories of the amazing wonders include: Ancient, Modern, Natural and New.
So, which category grabbed your attention? Perhaps all of them?
Ancient Wonders of the World
Background
The “Ancient wonders of the world”, also known as the “seven original wonders of the world” or “the wonders of the ancient world”, as the name suggest are all wonders that were apart of the ancient world.
Anyone curious why one of the names suggest it to be called “seven original wonders of the world”? (I most definitely was! So, below is my research 😁).
First lets start with the word “original”, the wonders that fall into this category were in essence the “original” seven wonders of the world, some were destroyed, others, some suspect never even existed. Despite it all, the wonders in this category were the first seven wonders of our world! Isn’t that interesting? A slice of history in the traveling world!
Ok, now to get into the more historical explanation, the use of “seven” in the “seven original wonders of the world.” The number 7 was perceived as a spiritual number that upheld perfection by the Greeks (Now you learnt a new fact!).
In addition, there was a Greek historian by the name of Herodotus whom is quite famous, not sure if you know him, but he was a guy that wrote of the 7 great architectural achievements. Unfortunately, his work did not survive, but in turn he developed the foundations of what we know as the 7 wonders of the ancient world today.
