Synopsis

Weaving the fine threads of magic through her writing, Caitlin Zura’s novel, The Veiling of the Moon Kingdom (TVOTMK) is an intricate and captivating read.

Elodae (Main Female Lead), is washed up on the shores after weathering brutal storms and a shipwreck. Unsure of her identity and whereabouts, she was lucky the king took her in as his niece, under his care and her new title as duchess the king soon takes the role as her father figure and her friends she grew up with soon became her new family. Yet she is still constantly haunted by the past and feels as though she will never truly belong in the kingdom, keeping her heart locked and surrounded by walls as strong as the castle’s. The only thing keeping her tethered to her past is her unreliable and fragmented dreams and her necklace. As darkness befalls the kingdom and mysterious events unravel, her identity and necklace seems to play a pivotal role.

Is TVOTMK Worth Reading?

Let’s hear from you first. If you found yourself saying “yes” to all or the majority of the above, buckle up and get ready for an unforgettable ride!

Short answer: YES!

Personally, I think this novel is definitely worth reading, with unpredictable plot twists, I was kept reading till late hours of the night! Long answer below in “My Opinions”.

Notable Aspects of the novel

Speed: Fast paced

Spice: 🌶️

Rating: 5⭐️ (My personal rating)

There is LGBT representation in the novel.

Series Reading Order:

TVOTMK is the first novel in The Stars Forgotten series. The novel was published on March 2023.

The second novel The Heart of the Warrior’s Soul is still to come out (and I hope to get my hands on it soon 😄).

My Opinion

“Good news or bad news first? I personally like to begin with bad news, in other words, what I disliked about the novel,” is normally how I would start this section of the review. However, I could not find a single element of the story that I disliked.

Disclaimer: I rarely give out five stars so this is a surprise for me too. I have tried to find something, just one thing that I disliked, I failed.

I have nothing but positive opinions on this novel.

What I Liked:

Good communication: Who hates the miscommunication tropes? Especially when it is dragged through out the novel?

TVOTMK has a good communication trope! This to me made the novel refreshing, something different.

Light read: The novel is a light read, which I again, though was refreshing. It was similar to the novel Love and Gelato, however so much more engaging and action packed.

Chapter lengths: Ever read a book with too long chapters? The Veiling of the Moon Kingdom has the perfect variation of chapter lengths! The chapter lengths was the cherry on top for me!

Characters: I loved the characters in the novel, not just the female (Elodae) and male (Alden) leads. I noticed that the characters were very balanced in energy and each had their own unique characteristics and back stories. I also found that the characters in this novel was very relatable.

POVs: The POVs were AMAZING! I love a story with multiple POVs and TVOTMK definitely checked this box. This novel has many cherries on top of the ice-cream, and the perspectives bought into it is definitely one! The POVs helped bring out the characters, making it an intriguing read as we are able to see the scenario from all angles and understand the reasoning of the characters.

Plot twists: There were multiple plot twists in this novel all of them kept me reading till late hours of the night (Especially the last plot twist)!

Another element of the novel that I loved was the dedication: “To the readers who keep their hearts in a cage – don’t throw away the key.”

Conclusion

This novel is a 5 star read for me and I would highly recommend you read it. Whilst I wait for the second novel to be released, you can get this novel from amazon here.
